University of California Los Angeles Olympic and Centennial Residence Halls
Los Angeles, California, United States
Glumac provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, energy analysis, low voltage, and LEED certification services for the two new residence halls, Olympic and Centennial, totaling 330,000 square feet. Both are located on the western slope of the hill and built on the former Lot 15 of the University of California Los Angeles campus.
Together the residence halls offer a total of 621 rooms and accommodate 1,800 beds for undergraduate students. Other amenities offered to residents within these residence halls include multiple study spaces, 3D printer access, a new dining hall and a view of both the Pacific Ocean and Getty Center. The inclusion of the first bridge built on the hill allows Rieber Court to connect with the entrance of Olympic Hall.
With the addition of both Olympic and Centennial residence halls, the University is on its way to achieving its goal of the “4:2 guarantee” – four years of UCLA housing to any first-year student who wants it, or two years for any transfer student. As a whole, the project contains many noteworthy sustainable features including: An annual energy cost savings of 34.26% shown through reductions source energy, greenhouse gas emissions, and Time Dependent Valuation (TDV) energy. 22% of the value of construction materials have sustainable attributes, such as recycled content or an extended producer responsibility recycling take back program. It is also and anticipated 71,000 gallons of water will be saved from efficient landscape irrigation design and water reuse during July, the project’s peak watering month.
