George Mason University Energy Efficiency & Resiliency Action Plan
Fairfax, Virgina, United States
George Mason University (Mason) hired Glumac to support the University’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040, with an interim goal of a 15% or greater reduction in carbon footprint by 2030. Glumac is partnered with Blue Strike Environmental and MGAC to provide the Energy Efficiency and Resiliency Action Plan (EERAP) for Mason. The plan focuses on Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
Glumac is developing multiple pathways to carbon neutrality with a focus on building energy projects, campus energy projects, resiliency projects, solar PV projects, and fleet electrification projects. This comprehensive plan will deliver a road map to carbon neutrality that not only focuses on carbon goals, but financial paybacks and operational considerations as well.
Stakeholder engagement through students, faculty and staff, campus planning experts, and senior leadership is integral to the project. Blue Strike is managing stakeholder engagement as well as scenario planning. A bespoke scenario planning tool will be developed for Mason to drive decision making and investments. MGAC is providing cost estimating services.
The first phase of this project is to develop the plan, with a 2 year energy support and program management phase after. Glumac will be partnered with Mason through their first several years of implementation, meaning we have a vested interest in the feasibility and success of identified projects.
