Sonoma State University Carbon Neutrality Roadmap
Rohnert Park, California, United States
Glumac worked with Sonoma State University to develop a carbon neutrality strategy that identifies how the University can achieve carbon neutrality by 2045. We drafted the carbon neutrality portion of the SSU’s Climate Action Plan that guides the campus’ future sustainability implementation efforts.
The results of our analysis will be developed into an actionable and cost-effective Carbon Neutrality Strategy that will serve as a roadmap for SSU to achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2045. The final carbon neutrality strategy will provide an implementation approach that includes estimated cost, GHG reductions and political feasibility. As part of this process we assessed and compiled the campus’s historical GHG emissions for all Scope 1, 2 and 3 sources. We reviewed historical emissions and benchmark against comparable universities to establish a performance baseline. This will support SSU’s submission to the Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating System
(STARS).
The project team provided SSU with a custom climate & energy scenario analysis (CESA) tool to support the carbon neutrality planning process. This allowed the campus to understand the investment the NPV of investments and the cost of reducing carbon emissions ($/MTECO2e). We developed a business as usual (BAU) emission forecast and various investment scenarios that will serve as a basis for SSU to track emissions reduction strategies into the future utilizing the CESA Tool.
