Sacramento Municipal Utility District Commercial Electrification & Energy Efficiency Program Support
Sacramento County, California, United States
This multiple year contract is focused around helping the local electric utility, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), and its customers achieve electrification across a variety of building and project types. In 2019, SMUD’s board committed to a target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. As a leader in California, and quite frankly, across the nation, SMUD’s commitment to reduce fossil fuel consumption is a meaningful demonstration of pursuing a clean energy future.
Most notably, the scope of this contract for Glumac includes multiple task orders that address the following:
- Gas to electric conversions using heat pumps for water heating and space heating
- Design of central heat pump water heating systems
- Assess building level electrical infrastructure to determine feasibility for upgrades due to electrification of space heating, water heating, and electric vehicles
- Evaluate programs from project level analysis to program design
- Recognizing costs and benefits of equipment/facility modifications and providing scheduling required for bidding/installation
- Managing multiple DVBE/SBE sub-consultants to support local community economics
To date, Glumac has facilitated concept designs and energy analysis for heat recovery strategies at a local manufacturing facility, the SMUD headquarters center utility plant and multiple school campuses. These endeavors have explored how to reduce overall energy use intensity in such a way that electricity-based solutions can be leveraged without increasing the
facility electrical demand and system capacity. Both space-conditioning and process-heating applications have been explored and are currently being planned for implementation.
